An exploratory SAE, or Supervised Agricultural Experience, is characterized by its focus on allowing students to investigate various agricultural careers and opportunities. This type of project encourages students to learn about different fields within agriculture, helping them to discover their interests and talents. By engaging in exploratory activities, students can ask questions, conduct informal investigations, and gather information which may inform their future educational or career choices in agriculture.

In contrast to other types of SAEs that are more focused or specialized, exploratory SAEs emphasize broad exploration and engagement with various aspects of the agricultural industry, allowing students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the field. This hands-on experience is vital for making informed decisions about potential career paths and gaining valuable industry insights at an early stage.
